About the Project
Health Canada sought to raise national awareness about the dangers of button batteries, particularly for parents, caregivers, manufacturers, and health professionals. The project aimed to:
- Educate families on safe button battery storage and emergency response
- Engage stakeholders (health agencies, manufacturers, retailers) to amplify the message
- Develop a comprehensive national strategy for awareness and behavior change
I developed:
- A marketing & communications plan to guide national outreach
- A stakeholder analysis & engagement plan for collaboration with key players
- Messaging strategies tailored for different audiences


The Challenge
- Unclear Public Awareness – Many parents/caregivers were unaware of the risks of swallowing button batteries.
- Lack of Coordinated Messaging – Industry and healthcare stakeholders needed aligned safety messaging.
- Stakeholder Engagement Gaps – Health authorities, retailers, and manufacturers needed a structured approach for collaboration.
A well-defined strategic plan was required to ensure a cohesive, multi-channel approach for maximum national impact.
